Senator Jan Muhammad Buledi, a Central Leader of National Party, Calls for Peaceful Resolution to Balochistan Issues

National Party’s central leader, Senator Jan Muhammad Buledi, has emphasized that Dr. Mah Rang Baloch’s movement is a peaceful and democratic political struggle that should not face suppression. Speaking during an interview with VoicePK, he expressed full support for Dr. Mah Rang Baloch’s demands, calling them legitimate and democratic.

He highlighted the issue of enforced disappearances as the most pressing concern in Balochistan, urging the authorities to present those who have been abducted before the courts and conduct trials in accordance with the law. “Every day, I hear news of young men being picked up from different areas, which is extremely alarming,” he said. He warned that the establishment must eventually come to the negotiating table, as further restricting political forces could exacerbate the already dire situation.

Buledi lamented the shrinking political space for parliamentary politicians, particularly Baloch and Pashtun nationalists, across the country and specifically in Balochistan. He noted that this marginalization has led to growing disillusionment among the youth and the public with the parliamentary system. He criticized the current Balochistan government, stating that those in power are not true representatives of the people but rather serve the interests of the state apparatus. “These so-called representatives cannot say ‘no’ to their masters because they are not political in nature,” he added.

In response to a question, Buledi blamed former military ruler Pervez Musharraf’s flawed decisions and policies for turning Balochistan into a powder keg. He said the state’s behavior after the assassination of Nawab Akbar Bugti further alienated the people and the youth from the state. He underscored the need for the state to abandon its reliance on the use of force to resolve political issues and instead focus on dialogue and negotiations.

He also pointed out that the conditions created for parliamentary politics have strengthened the narrative of dissenting factions that also distrust the parliamentary system. “Even political parties like the National Party, BNP-Mengal, Mehmood Khan Achakzai’s PKMAP, ANP, and JUI have been left disillusioned by these policies,” he said. Buledi asserted that non-political actors are benefiting from the current environment as they support every unconstitutional and oppressive action, being accountable only to specific quarters rather than the public.

He concluded that the only viable solution to addressing the Baloch issue lies in meaningful dialogue and the empowerment of people through a functional parliamentary system, where citizens have the right to elect their representatives. Any other approach, particularly the use of force, will only deepen the crisis.
