NP strongly condemns attacks on churches, homes
National Party Punjab President Ayub Malik has strongly condemned attacks on churches and Christians ‘homes in Jaranwala demanding of the government to apprehend perpetrators and hand down exemplary punishment to them.
In a statement issued on Wednesday Malik said attacks on minorities have drastically increased in the recent weeks which is a matter of great concern. Unfortunately the government did not take effective measures to protect non Muslim citizens of Pakistan, he added.
He said it has become a routine that some activists of religious parties accuse minority members or other Muslims of blasphemy then they take law into their own hands. “They start making provocative announcements on loudspeakers as the police look the other way. In Jaranwala the same practice was repeated with some miscreants making inflammatory announcements on loudspeakers, which led this unfortunate incident.”
Malik observed that the incident has frightened the community across the country demanding of the government to provide protection to those who have fled their area after the incident and bring them back.
Malik noted that over the decades syllabus at schools has radicalised generations. “ There is a need to include the speech of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah that he delivered on 11 August 1948. The speech clearly indicates what type of Pakistan Jinnah wanted. It is important that we teach our younger generation the vision of Jinnah that envisioned a country that is free from the curse of religious bigotry and communal hatred.”
